COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

Health, safety and cleanliness have always been our highest priority. Due to Covid-19, Hemlock Tattoo Studio is now taking extra steps to prevent the risk of transmission of infection. Rest assured we are doing everything possible to create a clean and sterile environment for your safety. All artists are fully vaccinated. Please make sure you read and understand our new shop protocols before your appointment. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out to us directly at hemlocktattoostudio@gmail.com. We share our studio with someone who is immunocompromised, so your compliance with our health and safety measures are imperative.

Appointment Etiquette

  • We currently require clients to show their Covid vaccination record before their appointment. If you are uncomfortable disclosing your vaccination history you’re welcome to show a negative rapid test. This will be subject to change depending on current mandates and our comfort levels.

  • If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness like sore throat, cough, fever, headache, etc. you must contact your artist to reschedule. If you come to your appointment with even mild symptoms you will be sent home.

  • Come alone to your appointment. Only artists and booked clients will be admitted into the shop until further notice. Any unconfirmed guests will not be permitted to enter.

  • Sanitize your hands and phone with the provided supplies upon entering. Feel free to wash your hands or use sanitizer at any point throughout your appointment.

  • Due to the intimate nature of tattooing, we require you wear a mask while being tattooed. Please bring your own if possible. If you are unable to bring your own we will provide you with a disposable mask.

  • Although our shop is small we ask you to still do your best to keep social distancing in mind where possible Please keep your distance from other artists and clients.

  • Please limit unessential outside items such as food and drink when possible. We do recommend that you eat a  filling meal and are well hydrated before your appointment. If you need to bring any extra items (such as water bottles or snacks) we may ask you to sanitize them before use.

  • Avoid touching your face or any unnecessary items during your session, if you do, please sanitize immediately.

  • We have always been a cash only shop. This is still our preferred method of payment. Please be prepared to go to an ATM near by during the day of your appointment. If you are uncomfortable paying with or handling cash please talk to your artist about alternative measures before your appointment.

  • Each artist may have extra requirements besides those listed above based on their own health preferences. If you are unable to meet your artists health requirements they have the right to refuse service at any time.

Thank you for helping to prevent the spread!

Hemlock Tattoo would like to acknowledge our location and role to play within the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes: The Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations), and the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III. We want to express our deep gratitude for the people of these nations for caring for the land and all the sacrifices they have made in doing so.

We want to acknowledge our privileged position to be operating on this extremely abundant land and to recognize that ALL people residing here are Treaty 7 people. In the spirit of acknowledging this history we want to conduct ourselves in a way that honours the Seven Teachings of the Blackfoot, Cree, and Ojibwe people. These teachings are comprised of courage, honesty, humility, love, respect, truth and wisdom and they perfectly encompass how we wish to operate and share space in Treaty 7 territory.

We also want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the indigenous origins and history of tattooing in North America as well as in a wider global context. Our modern western understanding of tattooing barely passes a glance at the deep, symbolic and sacred roots tattooing has in indigenous cultures. As a team we want to participate in changing this via the dissemination of information/education and supporting those who are working to revive and protect the ancestral tattoo techniques, motifs and patterns that colonialism sought to erase.

Thank you to Cheryle Chagnon-Greyeyes for her warmth, wisdom and guidance and to all future educators and experts for sharing their knowledge with us. We want to commit ourselves to continuing to amplify voices and seeking out the expertise of the historical stewards of this land we call home.
